Been there Don Det

Our fist stop in Laos was the island of Don Det, part of the Four Thousand Islands (also known as Si Phan Don).  This is apparently a haven for weary travelers wanting some rest and relaxation and it definitely did not disappoint.  While the waters were not as turquoise blue as advertised (we caught it just after the wet season when the water is more chocolate brown), this did seem a little like paradise with lazy days, good food and a killer kayak ride.

On a stroll down Sunrise Boulevard into Don Det Village where we also saw the local school.

Sunset view from the deck at our guesthouse- Little Eden.  A more upmarket place than most of the accommodation options on the island but we were happy to spend the extra for comfort and air con during the 4 days of relaxation.

Full day kayaking trip down the Mekong river toward Cambodia.  Morning shot and the sun was already blazing!  Thank goodness we wore long sleeves. 

The kayak tour required us to sometimes hike or ride to our next port where we got back in the water to paddle to the next destination.  This is the time we all crammed in to a bus with the kayaks.  A long day.

Khon Phapheng Falls, the largest waterfall in SE Asia by volume.  Last stop before our last paddle.  We were exhausted by this time of day and not looking forward to the home stretch.

After sunset and we are racing time to get back to our starting point just across the waterway from Nakasang; the same stretch of water we took via motor boat when we first arrived to the islands.  Needless to say, no cars exist on Don Det.
